The news of Taeil’s removal has sparked widespread curiosity about the alleged nightclub incident that’s been heavily discussed on social media. In response to the accusations, all of Taeil’s fellow NCT members have unfollowed him on social platforms, with Taeyong even going as far as deleting all his photos with him.
NCT’s Taeil Officially Removed from SM Entertainment
SM Entertainment informed the Associated Press that they have decided to remove NCT member Taeil from the group due to serious allegations of sexual misconduct that surfaced on August 28. The company also announced that all group activities will be paused temporarily. They stated that the severity of the accusations left them with no choice but to sever ties with Taeil.
Meanwhile, the police clarified that the investigation is not related to sexual crimes involving minors of the same gender but did not provide additional details at this time.
In their statement, SM Entertainment announced, “We have recently confirmed that Taeil is involved in a criminal case concerning sexual crimes.”
Following the news, Moon Taeil chose to step down. “As we investigated the situation, we realized the severity of the issue and concluded that Taeil could no longer continue with the group. After discussing the matter with Taeil, it was decided that he would be removed from the group,” the agency stated. They further added, “Taeil is currently cooperating fully with the police investigation. We will provide further updates as the investigation progresses.”
“We sincerely apologize for the controversy caused by our artist.”
In protest, fans burn photocards and destroy merchandise
Taeil, once a prominent figure in the K-pop scene as a member of NCT, is now experiencing a significant drop in popularity after allegations of misconduct surfaced. Fans have swiftly removed his concert passes, photocards, and merchandise from their collections. Images of burning photocards and other items have been widely shared online.
Taeil’s past club activities under scrutiny
The scandal deepened when a photo allegedly showing Taeil at a club during his recovery from an injury in March 2024 surfaced on social media. Fans were outraged to see him enjoying himself while the rest of the group was dealing with his absence.
However, some fans defended Taeil, suggesting that the photo might have been taken before his injury in July 2023. On March 30, 2024, a post on X (formerly Twitter) shared a picture of a person resembling Taeil at a club. Although the post tagged Taeil’s Instagram, there was no concrete evidence proving it was actually him.
