Prithvi Shaw Speaks Out About Social Media Backlash After Going Unsold at IPL 2025 Auction: “What Did I Do Wrong?”

Mumbai batter Prithvi Shaw remained unsold during the IPL 2025 mega auction that took place in Jeddah on Monday. Even though the Mumbai batter was listed on the second day of the auction with a base price of INR 75 lakh, he did not attract any bids and neither was he recalled during the accelerated round. Following his IPL snub, a video surfaced on social media where Shaw addressed the trolling that he has been facing ever since his recent decline in form.

The video was originally posted at the YouTube channel “Focused Indian” the day before auction, with Shaw talking over how he deals with online insults. He said that even some of the people troll him whom he does not even follow on social networks but keeps track of them. Shaw took this to be a good sign despite admitting that some of these memes and comments do pierce his heart.

“If they’re not following me, why are they trolling? It means they are keeping an eye on me, which is nice,” Shaw commented. “I don’t think trolling is good, but it’s not that bad either. Yes, I do see the memes about me sometimes, and they do hurt.”

Shaw also shared an incident of a viral video where he was dancing on his birthday and received negative responses. He asked, “I was wondering what wrong have I done. I know when I’m doing something wrong, but if nothing is wrong, it should be seen in a positive light.”

“Shaw Going Unsold at IPL Auction is Shameful,” says Former DC Coach

He had spent seven seasons in Delhi Capitals before he was released before the mega auction. Having had poor form in domestic cricket, Shaw, who also failed to find a spot in Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy squad due to fitness reasons, had brought down his base price from INR 2 crore to INR 75 lakh as well, yet no bidder was interested in him.

Mohammad Kaif, ex-assistant coach at Delhi Capitals, said that “it is shameful” the way Shaw was not purchased at the auction. “He should concentrate on domestic cricket and get back in the reckoning,” advised Kaif.

“Delhi supported Prithvi Shaw a lot. They believed he could dominate the powerplay and hit six boundaries in an over, and he did that. He smashed Shivam Mavi for six fours in one over,” said Kaif.

He added, “Now Shaw must work on the basics. Someone like Sarfaraz Khan earned a national call-up by scoring consistently in domestic cricket.”
