Meta AI Llama 4 Launch: New AI Magic Now on WhatsApp, Instagram and Web|

Meta (Facebook’s parent company) has officially launched its new AI model suite – Llama 4. These new models will now power the meta AI assistant – whether you are on WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram or the web.

Meta has introduced two powerful AI models this time:

Llama 4 Scout

Llama 4 Maverick

Both models are now available for download on meta’s official website and Hugging Face.

Llama 4 Models: What’s special?

Meta has trained these models using a machine learning technique inspired by China’s DeepSeek AI startup – called Mixture of Experts.

Its meaning is simple – different parts of the model are expert in different tasks, due to which performance and speed both are better.

Sugar Defender

Llama 4 Scout – Small packet, big bang

Lightweight & compact model. Can run on a single Nvindia H100 GPU. Efficient, but no compromise in performance. 17 billion active parameters + 16 experts. Total parameters: 109 billion.

Llama 4 Maverick – Full power model

Competitor of top models like GPT-4o and Gemini 2.0 flash. “Workhorse” of the Llama 4 series. Best for image + text understanding, chats and general AI use. 17 Billion active parameters + 128 experts – Meaning very smart and versatile.

Multimodal Capabilities – Image & Video along with Text

Meta’s Llama 4 models have been trained with text, image and video data – meaning these models not only talk, they also understand visuals. Whether you send a photo or write a text, Meta AI will understand both – full AI conversation experience.

Llama 4 Behemoth – Currently in training

Meta says that they are also working on Llama 4 Behemoth, which is going to become the world’s most powerful AI base model. In Zuckerberg’s words, “This will be the smartest LLM ever built” – quite a bold claim.

There is a little limitation too…

For now, the multimodal features of Meta AI are available only for English users in the US. So for now you will have to wait a little for Ghibli style images or India specific visual AI outputs.
