Again, it was thirteen-year-old cricket sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi who hogged all the limelight as he led India to a comprehensive seven-wicket win over Sri Lanka in the semi-final of the U19 Asia Cup. India cruised to the final with 170 balls to spare chasing down Sri Lanka’s total of 173 quite comfortably. Suryavanshi played a stunning knock of 67 runs from just 36 balls and showed his remarkable skills. He became the youngest player ever signed by an IPL team, and Rajasthan Royals secured him for Rs 1.1 crore.
India’s bowlers set the tone early by limiting Sri Lanka to just 173 runs in 47 overs. Chetan Sharma was the standout bowler with three wickets, while Kiran Chormale and Ayush Mhatre each took two wickets.
In the chase, Suryavanshi did not waste much time, hammering 31 runs in the second over alone, including three sixes and two fours off Dulnith Sigera. He reached his half-century in just 24 balls, hitting six boundaries and five sixes. India ran to 45 without loss in the first two overs.
India successfully completed the chase in 23.2 overs to seal the place for the final with Ayush Mhatre (34), Mohammed Amaan (26), and KP Karthikeya (11) helping in this match.
Suryavanshi had started Asia Cup journey very quietly with scores of 1 and 23 against Pakistan and Japan, but was seen coming out strongly in the match-winning score of 76* against UAE and carried on with a huge knock against Sri Lanka.
India will meet its challenge from the defending champions, Bangladesh, as they seek to claim their ninth title.
