Getting emotional, Ajith said: “Honestly, it still hasn’t sunk in. I am still a plain middle class person, and experiencing all this feels surreal. I’m happy and overwhelmed.” He said that his wife Shalini and children were also present at Rashtrapati Bhavan when he was given the award on 28 April.

“This moment gives inspiration”

Ajith said: “Initially I was overwhelmed, but such moments give inspiration. Or at least a reassurance that you are on the right path. That is why I focus on my work and never compromise my work ethics.”

Ajit uncomfortable with Superstar tag

Ajit who is 53 years old said that he does not like being called a “superstar”. “I don’t believe in all these ‘suffixes’. I like to be called Ajith or AK. I am an actor, and I get paid for my work. Fame and fortune are just byproducts. I just do my work, and try to keep life simple.”
