Bangladesh Clinches ODI Series Victory Against Ireland
Bangladesh Wins ODI Series Against Ireland in Mirpur
Bangladesh took a 2-0 lead in the Women’s ODI series against Ireland with a five-wicket win in Mirpur, successfully chasing a target of 194 with 6.1 overs to spare.
Ireland scored 193-6 in their 50 overs, thanks to Amy Hunter’s 68 runs. However, two significant run-outs by Rabeya Khan—of Orla Prendergast (37) and Laura Delany (33)—proved to be the difference of the match, leaving Ireland’s total below par.
In reply, Bangladesh lost Murshida Khatun early but Fargana Hoque Pinky’s 50 stabilized the innings. She saw Bangladesh to 100-1 by the 28th over. After the departure of Hoque Pinky to Delany, Sharmin Akter scored 43 off Ava Canning before departing quickly. Nigar Sultana Joty chipped in with 40 and Shorna Akter remained not out on 29 as Bangladesh made their way to the finish line.
The Ireland middle order collapsed in the 35th over, when Prendergast was run out and Hunter was dismissed by Shorna Akter after a strong 91-run partnership for the third wicket. They scored only 66 in the last 15.1 overs.
Delany was the best of the Ireland bowlers with his figures of 2-43 in 6.5 overs while Prendergast, Canning, and Arlene Kelly also showed good economy. But this Irish total didn’t seem to be enough as Bangladesh had their determined chase.
The final ODI takes place on Monday in Mirpur. A three-match T20 series then follows, beginning Thursday in Sylhet.
