“Clueless, Confusing”: Indian Legend Criticizes RCB’s Initial Performance in IPL 2025 Auction

"Clueless, Confusing": Indian Legend Criticizes RCB's Initial Performance in IPL 2025 Auction

Legendary former Indian batter Kris Srikkanth came very harshly against Royal Challengers Bengaluru for the way they approached the early bits of the IPL 2025 auction. Although RCB made an overall bid on several of the players, they could manage to get only all-rounder Liam Livingstone to their side for Rs 8.5 crore. Huge speculations were there that RCB would make a big fight for KL Rahul but somehow they managed the deal to join Delhi Capitals for Rs 14 crore. Hailing as a worthy pick, Srikkanth said that RCB’s strategy regarding the player is “naive” and “baffling.” He further added, “RCB needed a solid wicketkeeper-batsman, Rahul would have been the perfect fit – especially at such a reasonable price! Their current approach is honest, rather perplexing, and rather naive,” he said on X (formerly Twitter).

Srikkanth further added, “Once again, RCB missed a bargain in the auction not going aggressively for KL Rahul! What a bargain for DC!

Rishabh Pant outshone Shreyas Iyer to become the highest-paid player in IPL history, with Lucknow Super Giants securing him for a record Rs 27 crore, as teams eagerly invested in top-tier Indian players at the mega auction. Earlier this year, Iyer had led Kolkata Knight Riders to a championship; that is why he first held the record as the highest-priced player when Punjab Kings shelled out Rs 26.75 crore for him possibly as their new captain before Pant went on to surpass him by just Rs 25 lakh.

Both Pant and Iyer- erstwhile Delhi Capitals teammates- have overcome quite some hurdles in the last few seasons. Pant made a stunning comeback from a severe car accident that he survived in 2022, while Iyer rebounded from being left out from BCCI central contracts and went on to lead KKR to their third IPL title.

The Right to Match Delhi Capitals used their Right to Match on Pant for Rs 20.75 crore, but Lucknow Super Giants raised that and went to Rs 27 crore, and DC did not match that figure.
Iyer and Pant both are expected to lead their respective new teams when IPL 2025 commences from March 14.
