Duleep Trophy 2024 India C vs India B: Rinku Singh strengthens India B while Ruturaj Gaikwad’s India C targets a second victory.
As the second round of the Duleep Trophy 2024 begins, cricket fans can look forward to two thrilling matches: India B vs. India C and India A vs. India D. Both India B and India C come into this round with momentum, having secured victories in their first matches. Ruturaj Gaikwad’s India C will maintain their winning combination, while India B strengthens its lineup by adding Rinku Singh to join the talented Sarfaraz Khan and Musheer Khan.
According to PTI, several prominent players have been rested for the second round, which starts on September 12, to gear up for the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh. Key players like Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, Shubman Gill, Akash Deep, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Dhruv Jurel are among those given a break.
With Shubman Gill occupied with national team duties, Mayank Agarwal takes over as captain for India A. Prasidh Krishna also rejoins the India A squad, with selectors keeping a keen eye on his performance as a possible fast-bowling option for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia.
In the match between India B and India C, India B’s captain, Abhimanyu Easwaran, won the toss and decided to field first. Unfortunately, India C’s captain, Ruturaj Gaikwad, suffered an injury early in the game. After hitting the first delivery from Mukesh Kumar of India B for a boundary, Gaikwad twisted his ankle while attempting a run on the next ball and had to retire hurt. Rajat Patidar from Madhya Pradesh came in at No. 3 to replace Gaikwad and joined Sai Sudharsan at the crease.
Gaikwad had displayed impressive form in the previous round in Anantapur, leading his team to a narrow victory over India D. While chasing a target of 236, Gaikwad set the pace with a quick 46 off 48 balls. However, a late collapse almost cost India C the game before Manav Suthar and Abishek Porel steered them to a win.
Gaikwad’s red-ball cricket journey has been inconsistent recently. He was included in India’s Test squad for the South Africa tour last December but was later ruled out due to a finger injury. The 27-year-old, who made his First-Class debut for Maharashtra in 2016, has scored over 2,000 runs with an average above 42, including six centuries and ten half-centuries. Despite his strong domestic performance, Gaikwad is yet to secure a permanent spot in the Indian Test team.
