England Opt to Bat as Kapp Makes Comeback for South Africa

Heather Knight Wins Toss as England Opt to Bat; Kapp Returns for South Africa in Kimberley England captain Heather Knight decided to bat first in the first women’s ODI against South Africa at the Kimberley Oval, which was the first game of England at this venue.

South Africa had brought back the services of captain Laura Wolvaardt and opener Tazmin Brits, both of whom missed the third T20I over the weekend. Rested for the T20Is, Allrounder Marizanne Kapp joined the team at No. 5. Playing only her second ODI, Annerie Dercksen was advanced to No. 3 over Anneke Bosch.

England brought in one final change when Maia Bouchier suffered a neck strain during practice. Sophia Dunkley will bat at the top with Tammy Beaumont, while Alice Capsey drops to No. 7. England retained their winning T20I bowling attack, with Lauren Bell, Lauren Filer, Charlie Dean, and Sophie Ecclestone included. But Kate Cross, the wicket-taker of 2024 in ODI cricket, was omitted from the XI.

South Africa enter the series after a 3-0 ODI loss to India in June, while England come in with momentum from a 2-1 series win over Ireland ahead of the T20 World Cup. England have dominated their recent ODI encounters with South Africa, winning four of the last five matches.
