Errors in Judgment and…: Indian Star Speaks Out on Team Losing 3 Wickets in Final 2 Overs Against New Zealand

Virat Kohli,

Veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja shared his thoughts on India’s “surprising” collapse during the final session of Day 1 in the third Test against New Zealand at Wankhede Stadium. Just as India appeared to be in command, they suffered a setback, losing three wickets in the last two overs, shifting the momentum in favor of the visitors.

Ajaz Patel bowled a double-wicket maiden, dismissing Yashasvi Jaiswal (30) and nightwatchman Mohammed Siraj (0) in consecutive deliveries. Adding to India’s woes, Virat Kohli (4) was run out in the final over due to a quick throw from Matt Henry, falling short of the crease.

With India at 86/4 and trailing by 149 runs, Jadeja stressed the importance of a team effort to reach a target of 230.

“It was unexpected; miscommunication and errors in judgment happen. We’re 150 runs behind. Our plan is to build small partnerships to take the total past 230,” Jadeja said after the day’s play.

Earlier, Akash Deep made an early breakthrough, while the spinners, particularly Jadeja and Washington Sundar, capitalized on the pitch conditions. The surface released puffs of dust with each ball, making it difficult for New Zealand’s batsmen, resulting in a five-wicket haul for Jadeja and a four-wicket spell for Sundar over 18.4 overs under the intense Mumbai sun.

“I felt great contributing with key breakthroughs. It wasn’t easy to bowl in the heat; Washington did well, and everyone played their part,” Jadeja added.

India will resume Day 2 with Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant at the crease, as the hosts work to close the 149-run gap.
