New Delhi: Former Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Shaktikanta Das has been appointed as the Principal Secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, according to an official government notification issued today.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet stated that Mr. Das’ tenure will last until the end of the Prime Minister’s term or until further orders, whichever comes first.

Additionally, the government has extended the tenure of NITI Aayog’s CEO, BVR Subrahmanyam, by one year, effective from February 24, 2025. A retired Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer from the 1987 batch, Subrahmanyam was initially appointed as NITI Aayog’s CEO for a two-year term in February 2023.

Mr. Das served as the RBI Governor for six years, starting in December 2018, and has extensive experience spanning four decades across various sectors of governance, including finance, taxation, industries, and infrastructure.

During his tenure as RBI Governor, particularly amid the COVID-19 pandemic, he led several key initiatives aimed at supporting economic growth and maintaining financial stability in India. He introduced a combination of conventional, unconventional, and innovative policy measures covering monetary policy, liquidity management, and regulatory frameworks to safeguard financial stability and counter the pandemic’s economic impact.he air by Andre Onana.
