Good Friday 2025: Why is this day celebrated and what is its significance|

Good Friday is a very important and emotional day of the Christian calendar every year. This year Good Friday will be celebrated on 18 April 2025, which is two days before Easter Sunday 20 April. This day is a part of Holy Week, which comes after Monday Thursday and before Holy Saturday.
History of Good Friday
It is believed that Good Friday is related to the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. According to the New Testament of the Bible:
The religious leaders of Jesus’ time accused him of “blasphemy“.
They sent Jesus to the Roman governor Pontius Pilate, where he was tried.
Jesus was sentenced to crucifixion, which was the most severe and painful punishment at that time.
He was taken to the streets on a wooden cross and crucified on it.
It is said that Jesus gave this sacrifice to atone for the sins of human beings.
Importance of Good Friday
Christians celebrate Good Friday as a sad day, but it is also a holy day. On this day people fast, attend prayers and church services, silent processions take place, lights are dimmed in the church, bells are stopped and statues are hung so that mourning can be expressed. This day reminds us of the sacrifice and love of Jesus – and gives a hope that is fulfilled on Easter Sunday, when he was resurrected.
