Hudson River Helicopter Crash: Siemens Spain CEO Agustin Escobar and his family die tragically|
A very heartbreaking incident has happened over the Hudson River in America, where a private helicopter broke down in mid-air and crashed. 6 people died, including an entire family and a pilot.
Who were the victims?
Among those who lost their lives in the crash were: Agustin Escobar who was the CEO of Siemens Spain. His wife Merce Camprubi Montal and their 3 younger children – aged just 4, 5 and 11 years. There was also a pilot whose name has not been made public yet. All these people were traveling in a private helicopter, when it suddenly broke in mid-air and fell into the Hudson.
How did the crash happen?
The helicopter was named Bell 206 which took off from New York’s Downtown Manhattan Heliport at 2:59 PM. The helicopter flew north towards the George Washington Bridge, then took a south loop near the Jersey shoreline. After this, the connection with the radar was lost at 3:25 PM. At the time of the crash, people saw that the helicopter turned upside down and fell into the water. The tail rotor and one main blade of the helicopter were missing, this indicates that some technical failure must have occurred.
Massive Rescue Operation
After the accident, emergency teams from both sides – New York and New Jersey – reached the site. After some time, all 6 bodies were pulled out of the water, including children. Mayor Eric Adams confirmed that the helicopter flight lasted only 18 minutes.
Who was Agustin Escobar?
Agustin Escobar was an international level business leader. He had 25 years of experience with Siemens: in December 2022 he was the President and CEO of Siemens Spain. Before this, he had worked in Siemens Latin America and North America. And had a degree in Industrial Engineering from Unigersidad Pontificia Comillas. His career was focused on the energy and transportation sectors, and he held a number of senior roles in the US, Spain and Latin America.
An entire family was lost
The sad thing is that in this crash, an entire family was lost together. 3 small children, who were at the beginning of their lives, left this world in a second. This incident makes us realise how uncertain and fragile life is.
