Indus Waters Treaty Row: Hardeeep Singh Puri's strong reply to Pakistan|

Today, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri gave a strong reply to the statement of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) chief Bilawal Bhutto-zardari. Bilawal, while reacting to India’s decision to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT) in a recent rally, said, “The Indus is ours and will remain ours – either our water will flow through it, or their blood.”

On this, Puri said sarcastically, “I heard his statement. Tell him to boil in water. But how will he boil when there is no water? Such statements should not be given any importance. You will understand with time.”

Pahalgam Attack: India’s Strong Stand

Hardeep Puri also clarified that the terror attack in Pahalgam was a “cross border terrorist attack” in which neighbouring country Pakistan is directly involved. He said, “Now the period of friendship like before will not continue. As PM Modi had said, Pakistan will have to pay heavily for this. And this is just the beginning.”

Colonel Taimur Rahat’s Throat Slitting Gestures

Another controversy erupted when an officer of Pakistan’s London High Commission, Colonel Taimur Rahat, showed a throat slitting gesture. Commenting on this, Puri said, “This is a clear case of state sponsored terrorism. And Pakistan will have to pay for this.” He warned that if Pakistan is thinking that it can survive without Indus Water Treaty, then he said “God Luck” and left it.

Diplomatic Fallout: Impact on Shimla Agreement and Trade

After the terror attack on April 22, India has downgraded its diplomatic ties with Pakistan. According to intelligence sources, the terrorists of Pahalgam attack are linked to Taiba.

In response to India’s decision to suspend IWT, Pakistan has also suspended Shimla Agreement and has put some other bilateral agreements on hold. Trade has been stopped and its airspace has also been closed for Indian airlines. Along with this, a warning has been given but if India diverts water, it will be considered as an “act of war”.

Pakistan’s Defensive Position

Pakistan’s PM Shehbaz Sharif said in the context of Pahalgam attack that Pakistan is ready to participate in a neutral and transparent investigation. While giving a speech at the Kakul Military Academy, he said, “We cannot play the blame game. Pakistan is ready for a neutral inquiry.”
