Ishan Kishan made fun of playing for SRH, and showered 4s and 6s in Hyderabad!|
Ishan Kishan immediately picked up the phone after being bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for INR 11.25 crore (USD 1.34 million aprox) in the IPL 2025 mega auction. Who wanted to know what it would be like to play with the most explosive batting side of IPL.
He said, “I directly called Abhishek Sharma and asked, what are you guys expecting, do I have to hit every ball? He said, absolutely right, this is your job, come here and hit every ball, just enjoy being in the team. And this is the best thing.”
Ishan shared these things after his brilliant innings of 47 balls 106* runs against Rajasthan Royals, in which SRH made a mammoth total of 286 runs. Kishan’s century was the third fastest for SRH, after Travish Head (41 balls) and David Warner (43 balls). His partnerships were a hit, which could have become an all-time record for IPL but was two runs short of SRH’s own record (287).
Role Change and Clarity
Kishan could not perform anything special in domestic cricket before IPL 2025. His performance in IPL 2024 was also ordinary, which included only one half century in 14 innings. In SRH, he got a chance to play at No. 3, which was slightly different from the role of owner in MI. Kishan said that captain Pat Cummins and the coach gave him clarity.
He said, “Pat Cummins keeps it very simple. If the player wants to attack from the beginning, then there are those who support him. If you get out, there is no pressure. This is the confidence that the youngesters need. Aniket Verma hit every ball without thinking in his first match, and this is the confidence that the support staff and captain give.”
Comeback after a tricky year
Kishan’s great start with SRH has come after a tricky year. His BCCI central contract was canceled before IPL 2024, because he did not reorient domestic cricket. Kishan said about this, “Whatever the situation was, I never thought negatively. I just focused on the present and paid attention to my performance. IPL was about to come, so I concentrated on hard work.
