Kamran Ghulam’s Century Guides Pakistan to ODI Series Victory Against Zimbabwe
Kamran Ghulam shone with his first one-day international century to take Pakistan to a 99-run win over Zimbabwe in Bulawayo Thursday, winning the series 2-1. Ghulam’s fine 103 helped Pakistan make 303-6 off their 50 overs at Queens Sports Club. Zimbabwe replied ineptly and were bundled out for 204 off 40.1 overs. This was Pakistan’s 56th win over Zimbabwe in 65 one-day internationals.
After being disappointed by a heavy 80-run loss in a rain-affected first game on Sunday, Pakistan stormed back to a comfortable 10-wicket win and then maintained the momentum to close out the series.
“We are proud of this team, especially after coming from the first game defeat with the high expectations from the people back home,” Pakistan skipper Mohammad Rizwan said after the match. “The win gives us more confidence as playing away games is always difficult.
Winning the toss and choosing to bat, Pakistan began well before losing opener Saim Ayub at 58 runs. Ghulam then took charge, gradually increasing the scoring rate. He shared a crucial 54-run partnership with Abdullah Shafique, who contributed a composed 50 before being trapped leg-before by Sikandar Raza after a 68-ball effort that featured a six and five fours.

Ghulam continued to terrorise Zimbabwean bowlers, hitting four sixes and 10 fours in his 99-ball innings as he was caught at deep cover by Clive Madande off Richard Ngarava. Pakistan scored a stunning 69 runs in the last five overs, taking two wickets each of Raza and Ngarava but conceded heavily.
Zimbabwe’s chase got off to a disastrous start, losing openers Joylord Gumbie and Dion Myers early, leaving the team at 10-2. Veteran captain Craig Ervine offered resistance with a 63-ball 51, including six boundaries and a six, before being bowled by Aamer Jamal. Raza, often Zimbabwe’s savior, fell for 16 after mistiming a short delivery from Jamal.
Now the teams will shift their attention to a three-match T20 international series starting on Sunday in Bulawayo. After that, Pakistan will visit South Africa for an all-formats tour, which consists of two Test matches.
