Macchester United did wonders – a wonderful comeback against Lyon|

The current squad of Manchester United may not be in their “greatest teams” list, but this match has definitely become memorable. Such drama happened in the quarterfinals of Europa League under the lights of Old Trafford that fans will always remember.
Match Recap: It was a complete rollercoaster brother
On Thursday, United defeated Lyon and made it to the semifinals of Europa League. But this win was not a normal win – it was a match like a full-on movie script. Lyon had a 2-0 lead. But the mood of United fans was going down. Then United made a comeback and made it 2-2. Lyon’s Corentin Tolisso got a red card. It seemed that United had the advantage. But shockingly, Lyon scored two more goals in the extra tie and the score became 4-2 and the aggregate 6-4 in Lyon’s favour.
But then came the “Red Devils Magic”
Machester scored 3 goals in the last 7 minutes. And there was an explosion in the stadium. The final whistle blew and the score was 5-4, Old Trafford literally shook with cheering.
Coach Ruben Amorim said: “Some people collect shirts or scarves, I want to handle the sound of that stadium. Best sound ever.”
Olds Trafford – A Memorable Night
Manchester United may change their home stadium in the future, but if Old Trafford’s greatest nights are to be made on the list, then this night of April 2025 will definitely be in it. This match shows that United can surprise every time. This team is unbeatable, sometimes weak, sometimes they defeat Manchester City.
What went wrong, what went right?
This match was a thrilling victory, but it also showed the weaknesses of the other team: how did they give up a 2-goal lead, how did they concede 2 goals against 10-man Lyon? But at the same time the team showed that their fight and character are still alive.
Coach Amorim admitted: “We know that our team lacks some physicality. We struggle in the Premier League, but we do better in Europe.”
Next Step: Semi-final vs Athletic Club
United now have to face Athletic Club in the semi-final. But if we win a match like Lyon, then fans’ dream of winning the European League trophy will now come true. The final will be held in Bilbao on 21 May – and if United win, it will be Amorim’s first trophy as United Manager.
