Nicole Kidman’s Holland Review: Acting Queen’s New Drama!|

Short Verdict: Nicole Kidman once again proves that she can save any film with her acting but Holland’s confusing script is a bit too much for her too!
Basic Plot of the Film
Nicole Kidman plays Nancy – a school teacher who thinks her optometrist husband (Matthew Macfadyen) is hiding something
After a false accusation of stealing a babysitter’s earring, Nancy’s “ghost of a friend” grows even more
She joins her colleague Dave (Gael Garcia Bernal), who becomes a detective… but this investigation proves to be completely useless
Achievements of the Film (Pros)
Nicole Kidman’s Magic:
Nancy’s character has been given a perfect mix – funny as well as tragic
She shows something new even in a role like Stepford Wives
Setting & Vibe:
Claustrophobic small town of Michigan feel
Train set lying in the basement (but it has no meaning in the film)
Film’s flaws (Cons)
Script problems:
First half is interesting, but later it gets boring
Logic Zero – who sends an optomist on so many business trips?
Racism scenes were inserted randomly – no point
Direction issues:
Director Mimi Cave (Fresh banana wali) could not handle the suspense
Ending very disappointing – no twist, no meaning
What should have happened?
The film needed:
1 A dark comedy touch like the Coen Brothers
2 A creepy vibe like M. Night Shyamalan
3 An actual purpose for the basement train set (this was totally wasted!)
Final Ratings:
Nicole Kidman Fans: 3/5 (worth watching the acting)
Thriller Lovers: 2/5 (so many holes in the plot that Swiss cheese would be embarrassed)
Gael Garcia Bernal/Macfadyen Fans: 1/5 (both were wasted)
