Operation Sindoor: India’s tremendous retaliation inside Pakistan|

On the morning of Buddha, India launched a tremendous and planned military operation – Operation Sindoor. Under this operation, strikes were carried out at 9 major terror linked locations in Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK). These sites were important training and operational bases of organizations like Lashkar e Taiba (LeT), Jaish e Mohammed Hizbul Mujahideen (HM).
Response to Pahalgam Attack
These strikes were carried out immediately after the attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir on 22 April in which 26 civilians, mostly tourists, were martyred. Investigation revealed that Pakistan based Lashkar e Taiba was behind this attack. India’s aim was clear – to destroy the logistics, training centers and launchpads of these terrorist groups.
Why were these 9 targets chosen?
All these locations were old and active terrorist infrastructure hubs from where attacks or infiltration into India were planned many times.
1.Bahawalpur – JeM’s HQ: Bhawalpur is in Pakistan’s Punjab region and is the headquarters of Jaish e Mohammed. This group played a role in major attacks like the 2001 Parliament attack and the 2019 Pulwama bombing.
- Muridke – LeT’s main base and training ground is in Muridke near Lahore. The 26/11 Mumbai attackers were trained here.
- Kotli – This is a big training centre of JeM in Kotli region of POK where suicide attackers are prepared.
- Gulpur – This site was used multiple times in 2023-24 for launching attacks in Rajouri and Poonch areas.
- Sawai – Attacks in Sonmarg, Gulmarg and Pahalgam regions of Kashmir were planned from Sawai camp.
- Sarjal & 7. Barnala – Both these sites are near the International Border and LoC, and are commonly used for infiltration of terrorists.
8.Mehmoona – Mehmoona camp near Sialkot is operational for HM. But the group has become weak, but some active cells are still operating from here.
Timing and Execution
On Wednesday night at 1:44 pm, India launched precision strikes using long range weapons. This was a tri services operation – Army, Navy and Air Force executed it together. This was the first such coordinated strike after the 1971 war. India officially clarified that Pakistan military targets were not touched, only terror infrastructure was targeted.
