Over 400 Sex Tapes of Equatorial Guinea Civil Servant Ignite Major Controversy

A large number of sex tapes featuring a senior civil servant from Equatorial Guinea engaging with the wives of other men have surfaced on social media, leading authorities to take action against their distribution.

The videos show Baltasar Ebang Engonga, the married director of the National Financial Investigation Agency (ANIF), in compromising situations with various partners, including the spouses of high-ranking officials, within his office at the finance ministry.

On Monday, Vice President Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue announced on X that the government would initiate the “immediate suspension of all civil servants involved in sexual activities within ministry offices, as this is a blatant violation of the code of conduct and public ethics laws.”

This is not the first incident involving leaked sex tapes of civil servants, but the current situation has escalated significantly due to the prominence of those implicated.

Last week, Obiang indicated that he had given the telecommunications ministry, the regulatory body, and phone companies 24 hours to take action against the spread of the pornographic videos inundating social media in Equatorial Guinea.

“As a government, we cannot continue to witness families being destroyed,” stated the vice president, who oversees defense and security.

Reports, which initially circulated through WhatsApp groups and were later shared on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and X, claim that Engonga filmed over 400 explicit videos in his office.

Known as “Bello” for his handsome looks, Ebang Engonga is a married father and the son of Baltasar Engonga Edjo, who currently chairs the Central African Economic and Monetary Community. He is also connected to the country’s long-standing president.

The sex tapes were leaked during his time in custody at Malabo’s notorious Black Beach prison for alleged embezzlement of public funds, as reported by state television station TVGE.

Equatorial Guinea’s chief prosecutor, Anatolio Nzang Nguema, assured TVGE that if medical tests showed Engonga was “infected with a sexually transmitted disease,” he would face legal action for a public health violation.

Internet traffic, particularly the downloading of images, has been heavily disrupted as the authorities implemented measures to control the distribution of the sex tapes, according to witnesses who spoke to AFP.

Social media is buzzing with speculation that additional videos involving other individuals, both male and female, may be released in the coming days.
