PM Modi’s Victory Speech Highlights Yamuna Cleanup as BJP Triumphs in Delhi Polls

Prime Minister Narendra Modi began and concluded his victory speech in the Delhi elections with a resounding chant of “Yamuna ki jai,” emphasizing the river’s significance—a subject that became a key electoral issue for all parties.
Parvesh Verma, the BJP candidate who defeated Arvind Kejriwal in the New Delhi constituency, has promised to revive the Yamuna if his party comes to power.
Breaking a nearly 30-year-long wait, the BJP emerged as the largest party in Delhi, securing 48 seats, while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) saw a sharp decline, managing only 22 seats compared to the 62 it won in 2020.
“The very existence of Delhi has flourished along the banks of Mother Yamuna. The people of Delhi have been distressed by the deteriorating condition of the river, as AAP-DA in Delhi has disrespected this sacred heritage. Instead of taking responsibility, they have blamed Haryana for their own failures,” said Prime Minister Modi while referring to Arvind Kejriwal’s controversial accusations against the Haryana government.
Kejriwal Allegations and Haryana CM’s Response .
During the election campaign, Kejriwal accused the Haryana government of “poisoning” the Yamuna. The Haryana police responded to this by filing a case against him.
In return, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Saini drank Yamuna’s water near the Delhi border to negate the claims and labeled Kejriwal’s statement as false.
“I drank the sacred Yamuna water near Haryana’s border without hesitation. Kejriwal has outright lied. I have family members in Delhi as well. The AAP leader should apologize immediately,” Saini posted on X.
PM Modi’s Commitment to Yamuna’s Revival
AAP’s influence now is limited mainly to Punjab. Kejriwal’s national aspirations have taken a significant hit.
Addressing BJP workers after the victory, PM Modi reiterated his commitment to making the Yamuna a defining symbol of Delhi.
“I made a pledge during my campaign that we will restore Yamuna ji as Delhi’s pride. It may take time and effort, but with a strong resolve, the blessings of Yamuna ji will be with us,” he assured.
PM Modi also reminded how Kejriwal’s allegations were baseless, terming them “disgusting.” He said he has been drinking Yamuna’s water for 11 years and asked if anyone could believe that Haryana’s BJP government would attempt to poison him.
“The people of Delhi, diplomats, and even judges in the national capital drink the same water that comes from Haryana,” Modi stated, countering the AAP leader’s claims.
