R Ashwin's 'Delivery of the Series' That Amazed New Zealand's Glenn Phillips.

Ravichandran Ashwin emerged as one of India’s standout performers on Day 2 of the third Test against New Zealand at Wankhede, claiming three wickets as the visitors found themselves at 171 runs with nine wickets down by day’s end. Although Ashwin had not been at his best leading up to the Mumbai Test, he stepped up in this crucial match, especially from the perspective of the World Test Championship. Among his three wickets, the delivery that dismissed Glenn Phillips was undeniably the highlight.

Ashwin delivered a remarkable carrom ball that spun away from the right-handed Phillips after pitching on leg stump, evading the outside edge of his bat and crashing into the stumps. The sight was a delight for fans.

In addition to his three wickets, Ashwin made an excellent contribution in the field, notably taking a diving catch off Ravindra Jadeja’s bowling to dismiss Daryl Mitchell.

“I aimed to get as close to the ball as I could. I have great hands and trusted them to complete the catch,” Ashwin commented about his catch at the end of the day’s play.

Ashwin also shared insights into his approach during the match, especially the collaboration with Ravindra Jadeja, as the duo claimed seven wickets together in the second innings.

“The game is essentially split into two halves. One end responds differently than the other. It’s slightly flatter from where we are bowling, resulting in less bounce, so I decided to approach it differently. The batters recognize it’s easier to take me on from this side, so I wanted to offer something unique,” Ashwin explained.

India now needs just one more wicket to finish off the New Zealand tail in their second innings.
