Report Reveals Virat Kohli’s ‘Weakness’ in Simulation Game – Raises Concerning Claims
India’s star player Virat Kohli, eyeing a confidence booster, starts the Border-Gavaskar Trophy after an abysmal series against New Zealand. The men in blue had suffered a 0-3 whitewash at home to the Kiwis, the first three-match series whitewash in the country ever. One of the main reasons behind this shambolic performance was the unimpressive show put up by key players like Kohli and captain Rohit Sharma. Now, as India prepare to face the first Test against Australia in Perth, Kohli’s issues with short-pitched balls have all come into focus.
During a three-day simulation match against India A, Kohli was dismissed for just 15 runs in his first batting stint, as India A pacers—particularly Mukesh Kumar—proven tough for most Indian batters.
On Day 2, Kohli resumed batting, not getting out at all, and scoring 30. He later moved to the nets for individualized practice. His outings did not inspire much confidence, but the 36-year-old struggled significantly in dealing with short-pitched balls.
With extra bounce, Perth’s wicket will be something less to the familiarity of Indian batsmen who are accustomed to seeing play on subcontinental pitches. Australia’s bowlers, particularly with Rohit Sharma missing from this game, will look for using it more often.
Australia’s bowling legend Glenn McGrath has told his team to apply pressure early into the game, especially when Kohli is in the middle. Though Kohli has been known for coming through under pressure, he is visibly low on confidence presently. McGrath holds that if Kohli gets out for small scores early in the innings, it’s likely to be another trough.
