Sarfaraz Khan and two other players have been released from India's Test squad to participate in the Irani Cup.

The BCCI has announced that three players not included in India’s playing XI for the ongoing Test match against Bangladesh have been released from the squad. Sarfaraz Khan, Yash Dayal, and Dhruv Jurel will now join the Irani Cup, which is set to begin on Tuesday in Lucknow. Although the trio was present in the Indian dressing room on Day 4 of the Kanpur Test, with only one day remaining in the match, they will now head to Lucknow to participate in the domestic tournament.

“Update: Sarfaraz Khan, Dhruv Jurel, and Yash Dayal have been released from India’s Test squad to compete in the #IraniCup, starting tomorrow in Lucknow,” the BCCI stated in an official release.

The Irani Cup match between the Rest of India team and the previous Ranji Trophy champions, Mumbai, is set to begin on Tuesday at the Ekana Cricket Stadium. Sarfaraz Khan will be part of the Mumbai team, which will be captained by seasoned India batter Ajinkya Rahane. However, Sarfaraz’s younger brother, Musheer, will not be participating in the game due to injuries he sustained in a serious car accident.

Wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel and uncapped left-arm fast bowler Yash Dayal will be joining the Rest of India (ROI) squad.

When announcing the ROI squad, the BCCI had clarified that the participation of these three players was contingent upon their non-involvement in the second Test between India and Bangladesh.

Rohit Sharma and Gautam Gambhir opted not to make any changes to the winning lineup, sticking with the same playing XI from the Chennai Test for the match in Kanpur. In the meantime, India declared their first innings at 285-9 in just 34.4 overs, after bowling Bangladesh out for 233 on a thrilling day four in Kanpur.

Bangladesh faced a challenging 11 overs before stumps, finishing at 26-2, still trailing by 26 runs. Ravichandran Ashwin trapped Zakir Hasan lbw for 10, and later bowled nightwatchman Hasan Mahmud for four.
