Situation tense in Kashmir: Security forces launch a major operation after Pahalgam terror attack|

After the horrific militant attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, in which at least 26 tourists lost their lives, the Indian Army and police have launched a massive search operation. A day after the attack, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh gave a clear warning, “Those who are behind this hour, whether in front of the king or behind the curtain, they will soon hear our answer.”

Entire Kashmir has become a cantonment

Thousands of armed police and soldiers are stationed in the entire Himalayan region. Checkpoints have been set up, vehicles are being searched, and local businesses are closed on the orders of religious and political leaders.
The Army said: “Search operation is underway. Our entire focus is on bringing the attackers to justice.”

Kashmir Resistance took responsibility

A little-known militant group Kashmir Resistance took responsibility for this attack on social media, and said that the settlement of more than 85,000 “outsiders” became the reason for their anger. Reportedly 4 gunmen were involved in the attack. This attack is the biggest attack on Kashmir civilians after the 2008 Mumbai attacks. Those killed included 25 Indians and 1 Nepalese citizen.

Modi cancelled his two-day visit to Saudi Arabia and returned to Delhi in the morning. As soon as he arrived, he held a high-level security meeting, which also included the NSA and the Foreign Minister.

Tourists’ flight begins

After the attack, the tourists’ flight has begun. Extra flights are being operated from Srinagar airport. In the TV footage, people were seen leaving the hotels with their bags. Sameer Bhardwaj, a tourist from Delhi, said:

“How can we continue our trip in this situation? As long as the mind is not at peace, travelling becomes difficult.” And Gulzar Ahmad, a taxi driver from Pahalgam, said:

“The attack will definitely affect our work, but first of all we are saddened by the loss of lives. The damage caused to the tourism industry will be remembered.”

Global Reactions

US Vice President JD Vance called it a “devastating terrorist attack”. Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin, and Giorgia Meloni also strongly condemned the attack.

After the repeal of Article 370 in 2019, the autonomy of Jammu & Kashmir was abolished, and since then tensions have been rising in the regions. People from outside started getting domicile certificates, which gave them entry into land and jobs.
