“That’s Game Over”: Australian Legend Delivers Rohit Sharma a Send-Off from the Commentary Box |
Rohit Sharma’s comeback into the Indian cricket team wasn’t as expected, as he could score only three runs before he was trapped LBW by Australian Scott Boland. In Perth, Rohit Sharma had been shifted to the middle order after KL Rahul’s wonderful performances at the top. Unluckily, his comeback went for just a few minutes on the field. Rohit’s dismissal also caught the attention of Australian cricket legend Adam Gilchrist, who was commenting on his struggles.
Scott Boland, who replaced the injured Josh Hazlewood for this day-night encounter, proved to be a valuable addition to the Australian lineup. While Hazlewood is a cornerstone of Australia’s bowling attack, Gilchrist praised Boland’s effectiveness.
“Hazlewood was outstanding in Perth, but having Boland step in is far from a compromise. Boland’s height gives him an edge, and his ability to skid the ball is unique. That skiddy delivery got Rohit Sharma, whose front foot was stuck, and that was the end of his night,” Gilchrist observed during the telecast.
India’s batting lineup faltered, getting bowled out for 180 by dinner on the opening day. The visitors lost six wickets in the second session, collapsing after a tentative start. At tea, India stood at 82 for 4 but quickly lost momentum in the final session. Key players like Rishabh Pant (21), captain Rohit Sharma (3), Harshit Rana (0), Ravichandran Ashwin (22), Jasprit Bumrah (0), and Nitish Reddy (42) succumbed to Australia’s relentless bowling.

Mitchell Starc spearheaded the Australian attack, taking six wickets for just 48 runs. India’s innings, which had started promisingly, went haywire after a few overs before tea.
Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, who had scored a century in the first Test, was dismissed for a golden duck, while KL Rahul contributed 37 before his departure. Fresh from a Perth Test century, Star batter Virat Kohli fell for 7 and Shubman Gill’s innings of 31 just before dinner courtesy of Boland. The bowlers of Australia dominated the day, leaving much to be pondered over for India, who were made to struggle on a challenging first day of the second Test.
