The Duleep Trophy 2024 features a points system that determines which team will emerge victorious. Here’s how it works:
The Duleep Trophy has started the Indian domestic season in Bengaluru and Ananthapur with teams India A, B, C, and D competing. This year, the BCCI has revamped the traditional zonal format, featuring four teams captained by Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer, Abhimanyu Easwaran, and Ruturaj Gaikwad. The focus is on preparing players for the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh.
The updated points system reflects these changes, with no semi-finals or finals. Here’s how the points are awarded:
- Innings Win or Win by 10 Wickets: 7 points
- Outright Win (not by 10 wickets): 6 points
- First Innings Lead but No Win: 3 points
- Loss After Leading in First Innings: 1 point
Teams accumulate points based on these criteria throughout the tournament.
Each of the four teams will face each other once, resulting in three rounds of matches. The team with the highest points at the end of these six games will win the trophy.
There will be squad changes after the first round as Test players selected for the Bangladesh series will depart. Players like KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, Sarfaraz Khan, Dhruv Jurel, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Akash Deep, Shubman Gill, and Yashasvi Jaiswal are expected to be included in the Test squad for the upcoming two-match series against Bangladesh.
