‘Third Attack on Me in 35 Days’: Kejriwal Reacts to Liquid Being Thrown at Him During Padyatra.
Former Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader, Arvind Kejriwal Saturday condemned the liquid attack on him during his padyatra here and said it was contribution of the BJP to further decline in the law and order situation in Delhi. Addressing media persons on Sunday, Mr. Kejriwal alleged, “the liquid thrown upon me was nontoxic but it can be dangerous “. This is the third attack on me in 35 days.” He further criticized Union Home Minister Amit Shah, alleging that the message being sent was that it was the complainants, not the offenders, who would face arrest.
Kejriwal even condemned the arrest of AAP MLA Naresh Balyan. Balyan had filed the complaint against extortion by gangsters earlier. “Instead of arresting the criminals, they are targeting our MLAs,” Kejriwal added while demanding action against the real wrongdoers to make people in Delhi feel safe.
Liquid attack took place during Kejriwal’s padyatra in south Delhi’s Malviya Nagar. Kejriwal termed it as the ‘security scare,’ however told TOI that it is ‘poison-free’. The former termed it to be more related with rising control of the city through gangs as of recently where incidents witnessed shooting at Nangloi and the stabbing of senior citizens. Kejriwal mentioned how residents fear including businessmen from the various threats through extortion calls to street violence. Kejriwal also pointed out that he tried to go to Tilak Nagar, where a shooting had taken place, but was not allowed by BJP workers.
Kejriwal attacked the handling of law and order by the Home Minister, saying, “The law and order of Delhi is under Home Minister Amit Shah.”. I raised the issue, expecting him to act, and he attacked me. He added that AAP MLA Naresh Balyan, who had received threats from gangster Kapil Sangwan, was arrested instead of the gangster. “He arrested the MLA instead of arresting the gangster, and I was attacked,” Kejriwal added.
The attack happened while Kejriwal was conducting a padyatra in the Savitri Nagar locality of Greater Kailash. Police sources had it that the attacker identified was Ashok Jha was arrested and is at the moment undergoing interrogation. Nevertheless, the BJP rubbished accusations put forth by Kejriwal’s party on alleged participation by the saffron party in the attack by pointing out to the fact established by the police that indeed, water was thrown on Kejriwal, where the event he attended, wasn’t approved prior.
This is the third incident of attack on Kejriwal in the last 35 days. In a similar incident, Kejriwal was inked in Bikaner, Rajasthan, by some assailants in the year 2016. After this attack, Kejriwal had wished well to assailants by posting on the social networking sites.
