Thudroom Review: Mohanlal's comeback film which slowly shows its true colors|

Just like a beast slowly reveals its true form, Thudarum also seems a little lighthearted at first, like everyday life, light humor, a simple story in which taxi driver “Benz” Shanmugham is running behind his old car, which has been confiscated by the police. But as the twists of the night journey and mountains come, the film changes its gear. Tension builds slowly, and the film takes a serious tone.

A new style of Tharun Moorthy

After Operation Java and Saudi Vellakka, people had high expectations from Tharun Moorthy. And the question was who will be able to maintain his signature style with a superstar like Mohanlal? The good thing is that Tharun has kept the balance right. The story is quite strong, and Tharun has smartly added the twist of a natural disaster to it, which becomes the key to the story.

Mohanlan – The Legend Returns

Whenever a team is losing again and again, fans watch every match, hoping for a comeback. And for Mohanlal’s fans, this wait was quite long. In Thudarum, he has got a role that is enough for his classic style, a little humor, a little emotion and a lot of charisma. There is also self-deprecating humour in the film, where Mohanlal makes fun of his flop films – and this becomes a tasty topping for the fans.

The antagonist seems to be equal to the hero

In recent films, the lack of a strong villain was felt, but in Thudarum the villain is genuinely powerful and impactful. His presence makes Shanmugham’s journey more engaging. But in the last 30 minutes the film turns into a somewhat predictable revenge drama. Yes, Shanmugham’s past as a stunt choreographer justifies those transitions a bit.

There are some misses too

Some scenes of police brutality seem unnecessary, especially against women and children. If it was a symbolic portrayal, it would have had more impact. Shobana’s role is also written a bit patchy, her potential was not fully utilized. But Prakash Verma and Binu Pappu did a great job in their roles.
