Trump imposed big tariffs on India and China, said – “We are still charging less”|

US President Donald Trump has announced new reciprocal tariffs on India and China, which includes 26% import duty on India and 34% on China. Trump said that these tariffs are his “discounted reciprocal tax” because they are charging half of what these countries charge from the US.

Why 26% tariffs on India?

Trump said that India imposes very tough tariffs and charges up to 52% on US products. According to him, Modi Ji is his good friend, but he said to Modi – “You are our friend, but you did not treat us properly.” That is why, US will also collect half the tariff from India, i.e. 26%.

What will be the impact on China and other countries?

34% import duty will be imposed on China. 20% tariffs on Euroean Union and 10% on UK have been announced. Japan is also not spared – 24% import duty will be imposed on it. Apart from all this, there will also be a “baseline” 10% import tax which will be implemented from April 5 and country specific tariffs will start from April 9.

Trump’s big announcement – “Celebrate Liberation Day on April 2nd

Trump said in front of a huge crowd in the White House Rose Garden:

“For many days other countries have been looting us, but not anymore. April 2nd will now be known as ‘Liberation Day’ – when America takes back its industries. Trump also said that after these new tariffs, jobs will come back to America, businesses will grow and the US will become richer.

Can this trade war increase?

This move of Trump can be a big blow to global trade, because India, China and Europe can also impose new tariffs in response. Now it remains to be seen how Modi and other countries respond to Trump’s tariffs.

What do you say?

Is Trump’s decision right or unfair? Is it a threat to India-US trade relations?
