Video: Cricketer Sanjay Bangar’s Child Anaya Undergoes Gender-Affirming Surgery
Former India cricketer and coach Sanjay Bangar’s child, Anaya (formerly Aryan), recently posted a reel on Instagram showcasing a personal transformation journey over the past 10 months, although the post was later deleted. Now 23, Anaya underwent hormone replacement therapy and shared her progress online, which quickly gained attention. In the reel, she also included photos with former India captain MS Dhoni and star batsman Virat Kohli. Currently based in Manchester, Anaya has adopted her new name as part of embracing her true identity.
“Chasing my dream to play cricket professionally has been a journey marked by sacrifice, resilience, and an unshakeable commitment. From early mornings on the field to handling the doubts and judgments of others, every step required strength,” Anaya shared in the video caption.
“But beyond the game, I embarked on another journey—a path of self-discovery filled with challenges. Embracing my true self meant making tough decisions, stepping away from the comfort of fitting in, and standing firm in who I am, even when it was difficult. Today, I’m proud to pursue the sport I love at any level, not only as an athlete but as my authentic self. The journey hasn’t been easy, but discovering my true self has been the greatest victory of all,” she added.

Anaya, like her father, has pursued a cricketing career, having represented Islam Gymkhana in local club cricket and also played for Hinckley Cricket Club in Leicestershire as a left-handed batter.
However, in November 2023, the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced that transgender athletes would not be eligible to participate in women’s cricket.
“Inclusivity is of utmost importance to us as a sport, but our priority was to protect the integrity of international women’s cricket and the safety of players,” said ICC CEO Geoff Allardice.
In response to the ICC’s new policy, Anaya expressed her disappointment in a detailed Instagram post, sharing her perspective on the rule change.
Currently residing in Manchester, Anaya remains active on Instagram, where she frequently updates her followers on her journey.
