Video: Vinod Kambli Showcases His Singing Skills, Sachin Tendulkar’s Priceless Reaction Steals the Show
Sachin Tendulkar and Vinod Kambli reunited at Coach Ramakant Achrekar’s memorial, Fans react to the emotional moment
Sachin Tendulkar and Vinod Kambli, regarded as two of India’s most promising cricketing talents, shared a historic partnership of 664 runs during their school days at Shardashram Vidyamandir in a Harris Shield match, where both also recorded unbeaten triple centuries. The former went on to an illustrious international career, whereas the latter’s journey at the top level was cut short due to disciplinary issues.
Childhood friends recently reunited in Mumbai on the birth anniversary of their coach, Ramakant Achrekar, during the unveiling of his memorial. The function left fans emotional, more so as they could feel a contrast between the two former cricketers.
Tendulkar seemed fitter and more composed than ever, whereas Kambli appeared frail, struggling with his balance and speech. Even though the duo is hardly a year apart in age—Sachin is 51 and Kambli is 52—those not aware of their ages might assume an age gap much larger than this, with Kambli appearing several years older.

On that day of memorial, Kambli himself stood at the microphone to sing a song. The crowd was amazed and so was Tendulkar, who looked bewildered by his friend’s gesture. Later, however, he stood up, applauding him. An audio-video clip of this heart-to-heart went viral on social media sites.
After the ritual, Ramakant Achrekar’s daughter Vishakha Dalvi recalled her fond memories of her father as an honest coach.
The media often termed him as the ‘Selfless Coach’. He was never commercially driven and believed in forming the future of his students with pure devotion. The way he was teaching was saintly-there was always others before him, not him before others. It is because of him I have reached where I am now, Dalvi told ANI.
She added, “Achrekar received many prestigious awards, including Dronacharya Award, Lifetime Achievement Award, and Padma Shri. Still, he was humble and fully devoted to his work. “He never tired. Even after returning from tours, he would head straight to the ground after a quick meal. Rest was never a part of his routine, and I strive to follow in his footsteps,” she added.”.
The reunion of Tendulkar and Kambli at the memorial gave a poignant reminder of their shared past and enduring legacy because of a dedicated mentor like Achrekar.
